"We must learn to think for ourselves and by ourselves," de-clared Professor Amadou Mahtar Mbow, former Direc-tor General of UNESCO and mem-ber of the Moroccan Royal Academy during the opening cere-mony of the 13th General As-sembly of CODESRIA held at the Ecole Moham-media d’Ingénieurs in Rabat (Morocco).
Profes-sor Mbow asked the new generation of scholars, intellec-tuals and academ-ics to highlight the interest of the continent.
In the same vein, Profes-sor Samir Amin insisted that the new generation of intel-lectuals must con-tinue the intellectu-al struggle to cre-ate a world of equi-ty and justice. He also invited the young generation not to be seduced by concepts devel-oped elsewhere which may not have the same mean-ing in the African context. Participants paid him a glowing tribute, in recogni-tion of his no-ble struggle and in-valuable contribu-tion to knowledge in and on Africa.
